When you start it right...
POSTED AT 12:38 AM

..it will probably end right.

Just this morning I was a jumping jellybean, trying to balance everything I wanted to do and share. But it was still a nice start. I felt as if the day would be good, starting from the worship service.

And once again, my gut didn't fail me.

As I stepped down from the stairs of my unit on my way to the office, I ran into a house help carrying a baby in her arms, with another house help behind her. I smiled and proceeded walking to the elevator.

Then I heard a high-pitched voice say "Hi," but it really sounded like "Haay!" Thinking she wasn't talking to me, I continued walking. I heard it again: "Haay!"

Just before I turned the corner to my floor lobby, I turned around and saw this absolutely adorable girl about 4-5 years old, in a blue and white smocked dress, her hair falling in soft waves just beneath her shoulders. "Hi!" I said, without even trying to hide my smile. As we waited for the elevator doors to open, I watched her wrap the dress of her dress around her legs, and look down at her shoes. It was priceless.

Walking inside the elevator, I asked her what her name was. "Alexa," she said, straining her neck to look up at me. "Hi Alexa, my name is Roan." At that point, I was holding my house keys, with a charm of what convincingly looks like a small piece of bread. She took a look at it, but before she could start wondering what it really was, it was time for them to get off.

"Byeeee!" she said, holding her yaya's right hand.

"Bye!"

As the elevators closed, I was wearing a sheepish grin on my face, marveling at the magic of being around kids. I just knew it would be a good day.

___

But it doesn't end there.

At the office it was the usual circus, but I managed to pull through. After work, I met with Jay for dinner. As usual, we laughed like hyenas exchanging inside jokes with matching facial expressions, and shared how our days went.

Then came the exchange gifts. Two days ago we celebrated our 15th (or 29th) month, and I was excited about giving him my gift. It turns out he was too (hahaha! :D). But, as surprises go, something is meant to go wrong. He already bought the Green Day cd two days ago! And I bought it last Sunday. So it'll be mine instead. Good thing I had back up.

And, as always, I got giddy just seeing the white envelope. There was a bonus too. Turns out someone wants my autograph. ;p

Thank you, for making my day, everyday. ♥

P.S. I know this is long, mushy and shameless. So if you're still reading this line, thanks. Hehe.

Shucks I'm such a doofus. I got the title of Murakami's short story wrong! The correct title is "On Seeing the 100% Perfect Girl One Beautiful April Morning."

YES! This is the first Murakami book that I was excited to read through the end. The only reason I haven't finished it is because there's no time, hehe.

I also have The Elephant Vanishes, but I've only read one story so far--because I read it in class during college--"On Meeting the 100% Perfect Person One April Morning."
